1954 Eastside Renewal
The objective of the remodel of this midcentury home was to open up the major living areas and provide a generous working kitchen for the owners who are avid cooks. Hoping for a better layout to the existing small u-shaped kitchen and a better connection between the living spaces, the wall separating the kitchen and family room was replaced with a beam. The kitchen was remodeled to include two wall units and an island, greatly increasing the cabinet and countertop square footage and the usability and flow.
Cabinets were selected based upon the desire to create a modern feel that also worked with enhancing the original design of the home. The mix of laminate cabinets with brass pulls along with upgrades of rift white oak accents and walnut at the island fell within a realistic overall cabinet budget, yet allowed an emphasis on key areas.
A new large sidelight sliding door opening was incorporated into the family room adding an enhanced connection to the rear yard and deck.
