Art Lovers’ Kitchen
The first step in creating a space where this fun-and-food-loving couple could enjoy entertaining with ease was to convert their back porch into a comfortable, intimate dining nook just off the kitchen. This conversion also gave them a clear view from the kitchen, through the dining nook, out to the terraced backyard gardens.
These art-appreciators had display and organization in mind when making design decisions. The cheery yellow walls combined with southeasterly morning light through the new, oversized, garden window, make a perfect backdrop for their folk and southwestern art collection. Custom cupboards were designed to showcase art pieces in glass-fronted, spot-lit, upper cabinets. Additional open corner shelving at the sink provides more opportunities for art display.
Other custom touches include a cat food can & bowl cupboard, cutting boards on the pantry door are affixed ship’s galley style, a slender cookie tray cupboard near the oven and a built in wine fridge.
A low breakfast bar on the opposite side of the stovetop is nestled close to built-in bookcases that house an enviable collection of regional and world wide cookbooks. Custom wood and metal low back stools at the bar area coordinate with the stools and a custom table of the same materials in the dining nook.
