Charming in Ravenna
A sweet, classic, compact Seattle bungalow was long on charm but short on function. Typical of these old homes, each room was closed off and small in scale. The main goal of this design was to open the sight lines and the connections from the living room, dining room and kitchen, and to improve the experience of the backyard. Choosing to prioritize quality over quantity meant not adding additional square footage but making every inch count with the best possible materials.
New walnut cabinetry, un-lacquered brass hardware, quality and efficient appliances and a paneled refrigerator bring a sense of luxury and charm that will age beautifully over time. We were even able to squeeze in a small drinks fridge in the dining room cabinetry.
We took advantage of attic space above the kitchen and raised a portion of the ceiling. Beautiful hand made tiles became the vehicle to honor important people in the homeowners lives using small colored tiles to represent different elders, a subtle yet meaningful detail.
The new covered deck gives the clients additional living and entertaining space and easy access to their backyard garden.
