A Kitchen for Cooking Together

This sweet, one story, 1920s bungalow with a traditional layout was not serving the needs of this family of four who love to cook together. The goal of this project was to increase the capacity of the kitchen so they could all operate with ease in the space. The other elements of the remodel include a newly designed direct connection with the backyard and an additional bathroom to enhance the enlarged primary bedroom — creating an ensuite that is removed from the bustle of the main living space.

We extended the home at the back, making it possible to create an open staircase that runs from the kitchen to the finished basement, opening up the space considerably. The addition more than doubled the size and storage capacity of the kitchen. The back entrance was redesigned with glass doors leading to a new deck with storage below for easy access to kayaks and bicycles. Enlarging the opening between the dining room and kitchen provides an easy flow and uninterrupted site-line through the length of the house.

The clients' selection of fixtures and materials adds a calm and refined charm to this bright and light-filled home.
