Mid-Century Jewel
An elegant Post and Beam house with large windows built in the 70’s had been remodeled in the 80’s and adorned with fussy, heavy cabinetry that did not fit the style of the home. The inefficient kitchen layout was incongruous with the style of the home. Eager to remove the old cabinets the clients began ripping out what they could while waiting patiently for us to help them come up with a new design, hampered by all the delays common to the pandemic. Our engineer came up with beautiful solutions for stabilizing the structure. The delays of the pandemic allowed for lots of dream time with the client. The reinforcement of unstable posts and connection to the main beam was prioritized as a focal point instead of an obstacle. The layout was opened up to connect the spaces in the open floor plan better. All cabinetry was replaced, a large central island added and a new larger window installed above the kitchen sink. Much needed lighting was added with interesting fixtures that define the various zones of the open space. There is now a connection all the way from the light filled front living room windows to the deck and serene wooded yard beyond. We are absolutely thrilled with the layout and the material choices the client made.
